“Eduardo Chávez Manzanares, director of the Traffic Police from the Ministry of Public Security and Civil Protection of Acapulco, was assassinated by a group of armed men with at least 50 shots around 9:30 am on April 11, 2024, as he was leaving his residence located on Paseo de la Cañada street, in the Infonavit Alta Progreso neighborhood, in the port of Guerrero.”
The municipal official was on board a patrol parked in front of their private residence and was preparing to go to work when they were attacked. Despite paramedics arriving at the scene to take Chávez Manzanares to the hospital, they died on the way due to their injuries.

After the event, the Municipal Government of Acapulco, headed by Abelina López Rodríguez – a member of Morena – issued a statement condemning the events. They also reported that the General Prosecutor’s Office of the state of Guerrero has opened an investigation into the murder of Chávez Manzanares.
One day earlier, the director of Acapulco’s Traffic Police participated in the launch of the ‘Safe Mobility’ operation to prevent accidents on Costera Miguel Alemán Avenue due to the lack of traffic lights. The event was led by the acting head of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, Luis Enrique Vázquez Rodríguez.
On January 10, 2023, a group of armed men shot and killed the then-operational chief of the Auxiliary Police of Acapulco, Samuel Buenfil Espinoza, as he was walking near the offices of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat on Vicente Guerrero Street, in the Progreso neighborhood of the port of Acapulco, Guerrero.
Around 09:40 on April 11, 2024, a group of armed men set fire to two Urvan vans from the Chilpancingo-Amojileca route, parked at a public transportation site in the state capital, located in the Unidos por Guerrero neighborhood.

During the aggression, no injured persons were reported. After causing the fire, the attackers fled. Minutes later, agents from the National Guard, State Police, and Criminal Investigative Police arrived. Meanwhile, personnel from the state Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection extinguished the fire.
