After spending almost a week in prison accused of carrying weapons exclusively used by the Army, Xóchitl Sánchez Félix, sister of ‘El Ruso’, a criminal leader operating in Mexicali, was released due to irregularities in the legal process against her.
On Saturday, January 27th, the 32-year-old woman regained her freedom along with the two persons with whom she was arrested, César Antonio Mojardín Pérez, 25, and Ramón Omar Avilez Medina, 43, who is the husband of Russ’s sister and cousin of Alfonso Medina Peralta, also known as P1.
The trial lasted several hours because the defendant’s defense presented testimonies and various evidence to discredit the initial report that the arrest did not take place as it was initially stated in the informational report.
The charge was due to the possession of firearms inside a vehicle, in which they were driving in the vicinity of Kilometer 57, on the border of Mexicali Valley and San Luis Rio Colorado.
However, for the federal judge, there were enough testimonies and evidence to discredit this version of the state officials, so immediate release was decreed and state authorities were requested to initiate an investigation into the victims and how the events occurred in order to – possibly – sanction the arresting agents.
Also for possible acts of abuse committed against those involved by the uniformed officers.
Xochitl is the sister of Jesus Alexander Sanchez Felix and/or Jose Ponce Felix, also known as “el Ruso”, lieutenant of the criminal structure of the Sinaloa Cartel, which controls a large part of the illicit activities that occur in Mexicali and its valley.
