Reporting and context
Federal authorities arrested a man identified as Iván “N,” alias “El Tanque,” in Zapopan, Jalisco, on October 5 during a joint operation, Noticaribe reported. Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, said the detainee was identified as an alleged regional operator of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) with activities in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Puebla.
The operation involved Mexico’s Defense Ministry, the SSPC and the National Guard, with intelligence support from the National Intelligence Center, SSPC investigators and the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General’s Office. According to the official account cited by Noticaribe, Iván “N” was arrested in flagrante and authorities seized a vehicle, a firearm and various doses of drugs.
Federal investigations associate him with alleged homicide, extortion, unlawful deprivation of liberty, fuel theft, money laundering and drug trafficking, the outlet reported. Authorities also allege that he participated in the 2015 attack on an Army helicopter in Jalisco, in which members of the armed forces and Federal Police were killed.
Noticaribe said the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned him in September 2024 and identified him as a high-level CJNG figure close to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho.” U.S. authorities also linked him to an alleged fuel-theft network. Iván “N” was placed at the disposal of the specialized organized-crime prosecutor’s office, where his legal status will be determined.
