Mexican authorities arrest “El Cara de Cochi” in Valle de Bravo operation
Mexican Army Special Forces and the National Guard arrested Jesús Darío Murrieta Navarro, known as “El Cara de Cochi,” during an operation in Valle de Bravo, State of Mexico, on October 10. According to the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM), Murrieta has an active arrest warrant in Sonora and is the subject of an extradition proceeding to the United States. Authorities identify him as the alleged head of La Barredora 24/7, described as the armed wing of the Cártel de Caborca.
The arrest was part of two operations in Valle de Bravo and Toluca that resulted in eight detentions, including three Colombian nationals in Toluca. Infobae México reported that authorities seized long guns, ammunition and suspected methamphetamine during the operations. In a separate intervention in Valle de Bravo, officials said they recovered two 7.62-by-39-millimeter rifles, four magazines, 120 doses of a substance resembling crystal methamphetamine and 43 packages of suspected marijuana.
The source links Murrieta to Carlos Alberto Páez Pereda, known as “Carlitos Rugrats,” and to Rafael Caro Quintero, while noting that those links and the authorities’ organizational claims are allegations or official identifications. The article also describes earlier violence in northern Sonora, including a February 2024 attack on a hotel occupied by state police and a December 2024 drone-explosive attack that caused property damage only. It says a U.S. indictment unsealed in San Diego on July 7, 2026, accuses Páez Pereda of narcoterrorism and material support for a foreign terrorist organization.
