Hoy Tamaulipas reports that searchers found bone fragments, burned remains and a clandestine grave in Puerta Sur. Forensic examinations are needed to establish identities and the number of people represented.

Reporting and context

Members of the Colectivo Amor por los Desaparecidos en Tamaulipas found bone fragments, burned remains and a clandestine grave on vacant land in Reynosa’s Puerta Sur neighborhood, according to Hoy Tamaulipas.

The search took place on land between the Viaducto Reynosa and the Puerta Sur housing development. The group was searching for missing people when members identified several spots with possible human remains, including fragments exposed on the ground and signs of burned material.

Hoy Tamaulipas reported that the searchers notified authorities after locating the grave. Officials took charge of processing the site and recovering the remains, preserving the evidence for transfer and examination by forensic specialists.

Those examinations are needed to establish the origin of the fragments and help identify them. Specialists must also determine whether the remains belong to one person or several, with the findings to be incorporated into missing-person records.

The collective said it would continue searches elsewhere in Tamaulipas as families seek their missing relatives and answers about their whereabouts.
