Reporting and context
Federal forces disabled a methamphetamine-production site in Los Brasiles, in the municipality of Culiacán, and seized 100 kilograms of methamphetamine, according to Noroeste’s October 26 report citing Mexico’s Security Cabinet.
Navy personnel, the federal Security and Citizen Protection Ministry and the Attorney General’s Office took part in the operation. Authorities also reported finding 32 liters of chemicals and assorted materials. The source said materials were rendered unusable at the site to prevent reuse. The Security Cabinet estimated the financial loss to organized crime from that operation at 8.8 million pesos.
In a separate action, Mexican Army personnel reported disabling seven chemical-storage areas across Corral Viejo, Las Puertas, San Román, El Cedrito and Los Mayos, also in Culiacán municipality.
Noroeste reported that troops seized 5,935 liters and 365 kilograms of chemicals used to produce methamphetamine at those seven areas. Officials estimated the financial loss from that separate seizure at 128 million pesos.
The Security Cabinet announced both operations in a statement about coordinated efforts against clandestine laboratories and synthetic-drug production areas. The installations and storage areas were disabled, and seized materials were placed at the disposal of the relevant authorities.
