Sinaloa warns residents not to touch suspected explosives
Original reporting: Noroeste Seguridad
What happened
Sinaloa authorities urge residents to move away from suspected explosive devices and report their location to 911 or 089. Noroeste cites two recent attacks on homes in Mazatlán as background.
Reporting and context
Sinaloa’s state Public Security Secretariat has issued guidance for residents who encounter a suspected explosive device, urging them to leave it untouched, move away and report its location. According to Noroeste, the warning comes amid increased use of explosives in the state.
Authorities advise people against touching, moving or handling a suspicious object. Residents should keep others from approaching without putting themselves at risk, then call 911 or the anonymous reporting line, 089, and provide the location so specialist personnel can respond.
Noroeste reported that the protocol follows attacks and seizures involving improvised explosive devices, including devices adapted to be dropped from drones.
The report cites explosive attacks on two homes in Mazatlán on September 25 and October 14, in the 20 de Noviembre and Gustavo Díaz Ordaz neighborhoods.
The accompanying public-information graphic reproduces the preventive advice. Its illustrations should not be read as photographs of devices recovered in those attacks. The guidance directs residents to leave assessment, removal and neutralization to specialist personnel.
