Reporting and context

Nine people were arrested in two operations in Playa del Carmen's Ejido neighborhood on suspicion of drug offenses, according to Macropolis Quintana Roo, citing the state prosecutor's office. Investigators said they were examining possible links to a criminal group involved in selling and supplying drugs in the municipality.

State investigators and municipal police carried out both operations. On Avenida 65 Sur, officers arrested Juan Fernando “N”, Jovani “N”, José de la Cruz “N” and Gonzalo “N”. The official account said officers approached after seeing the four exchanging what appeared to be illicit substances.

Authorities reported seizing plant material resembling marijuana and substances resembling methamphetamine, along with cash, a cellphone and a small digital scale.

In the second operation, on Calle 3 in the same neighborhood, officers arrested Brayan Jesús “N”, Adonai “N”, Luis Carlos “N”, Mayra Itzel “N” and Ester “N”. Authorities also reported finding suspected marijuana and methamphetamine in that intervention.

Macropolis Quintana Roo reported that prosecutors were investigating whether the nine belonged to a criminal group described by the agency as generating violence. The prosecutor's office did not identify the organization or disclose the quantities of suspected drugs seized in either operation.

The detainees and evidence were turned over to the public prosecutor, who will determine their legal status within the constitutional deadline, the report said.
