Uncorroborated allegation resurfaces about El Chapo and unidentified teenager

Publimetro México reported a new allegation about Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s personal life, based on comments by Lucero Guadalupe Sánchez López, a former Mexican lawmaker known as the “Chapodiputada.” Sánchez said Guzmán allegedly had a relationship with and married a teenage girl known only as “La monita” in 2010. The claim has not been independently corroborated, and the girl’s identity remains unknown.
Sánchez made the allegation in an interview published Sept. 11 on the Gusgri podcast. She said the teenager was between 14 and 16 when she visited Guzmán at the Carrizo de la Petaca ranch in Durango. Sánchez said she arrived at the ranch in March 2010 to work as a stylist and was told that a young visitor known as “La monita” was arriving by plane. She alleged that the teenager married Guzmán on Feb. 14, 2010.
Publimetro México emphasized that Sánchez was not referring to Emma Coronel, who married Guzmán on July 2, 2007, when she was 18. Sánchez said she did not know “La monita’s” legal name and had only heard the nickname used at the ranch. There are no public records cited in the report confirming the teenager’s age, identity or alleged marriage, and no information about what happened to her later.
Sánchez was romantically linked to Guzmán and later testified at his federal trial in New York. Her account is the sole basis identified for the allegation in this coverage.
