What happened

Publimetro México reported that authorities arrested Iván “N,” known as El Cromo, in Guadalajara. Officials cited three aggravated-homicide warrants and linked the investigation to alleged criminal protection schemes in Oaxaca.

Reporting and context

Iván “N,” known as El Cromo, was arrested in Guadalajara, Jalisco, after intelligence work by naval and federal investigators, according to Publimetro México. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch identified him as one of the leaders of Los Cromos, an organization authorities link to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Publimetro México reported that Iván “N” is being investigated for suspected involvement in homicides, extortion, kidnapping and drug and weapons trafficking in Oaxaca. García Harfuch said the detainee had two documented arrest warrants for aggravated homicide involving three victims, plus a third warrant for the same offense dating to 2020.

Authorities also suspect Los Cromos of involvement in the killing of a four-year-old girl in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca. Before the arrest, they had offered a reward of up to 2 million pesos for information that would help locate Iván “N,” the report said.

The Navy’s Naval Intelligence Unit and the National Intelligence Center carried out the intelligence and investigative work behind the capture. The Navy led the operation with the federal security and defense ministries, the federal Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard and other federal and state authorities.

The arrest continues an investigation that led to the September 23 capture of Miguel “N,” then mayor of Juchitán, and another alleged member of the organization. Those cases involve suspected aggravated extortion, offenses against state security and alleged schemes to protect criminal groups. Official information cited by Publimetro also links Los Cromos to protection rackets and other serious crimes in the region.
