Reporting and context
Authorities arrest alleged Los Tanzanios leader in Mexico City
Irving Ricardo “N,” known as “El Irving,” was arrested with two other men in Mexico City’s Benito Juárez borough, the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) said. Police officers reportedly followed the group after seeing one occupant of their vehicle handling a firearm on Calzada de Tlalpan, then stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Napoleón and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra streets in the Moderna neighborhood. The SSC said officers found drugs, cash and a weapon during the inspection.
Pablo Vázquez Camacho, the SSC secretary, described the suspect as a priority target and an alleged leader of a violent criminal group operating in the eastern part of the capital. Infobae México reported that authorities link the Los Tanzanios cell to alleged extortion, kidnapping, protection-racket collection and retail drug dealing in the Iztapalapa and Iztacalco boroughs. The two other detainees were identified as Eduardo “N,” known as “El Perico,” 31, and Edgar “N,” 41; authorities also described them as alleged members of the group.
The three men were handed over to prosecutors, along with the seized items, for a decision on their legal status. The case follows the July arrest of Nicolás “N,” known as “El Nico,” whom the Mexico City prosecutor’s office identified as an alleged founder of Los Tanzanios. Infobae México reported that Nicolás “N” had previously been arrested in December 2023, when investigators said they seized 292 doses of powdered drugs during a search, and was arrested again in September 2025. Those allegations remain subject to the legal process.
