Officials Report Massive Culiacán Meth Lab Seizure

Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch said Navy personnel dismantled a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Culiacán that covered 5.7 square kilometers, Noroeste reports. He described it as the second-largest methamphetamine laboratory located during the current federal administration.
García Harfuch said authorities seized 16 tons of methamphetamine and 10 tons of chemical substances at the site. Those quantities are official claims reported by the outlet and were not accompanied by a detailed public inventory in the source account.
The Navy led the operation to disable the facility, while the federal Attorney General's Office also participated, according to the report. García Harfuch said the largest laboratory found during the current administration had previously been located in an operation led by the Defense Secretariat.
The Navy first announced the seizure through its social-media accounts on September 5. García Harfuch confirmed the operation three days later during President Claudia Sheinbaum's morning news conference.
Officials did not disclose the laboratory's precise location within Culiacán or the date on which the operation occurred, Noroeste reports. The account also did not identify arrests, suspects or an organization allegedly responsible for the site, leaving those aspects of the investigation publicly unspecified.
