Reporting and context
The Mexican Navy said it detained five men during crime-prevention patrols in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and seized suspected drugs, weapons and tactical equipment in several operations. According to Los Noticieristas Policiaca, officers found three bags containing a granular substance, a notebook with institutional communication codes, a radio, a battery and a charger during the arrests. The detainees and seized items were placed at the disposal of the competent authority, which will determine their legal status.
Los Noticieristas reported that, during Operation Sable, Navy and federal security personnel found 76 improvised explosive devices, five hand grenades and two improvised hand grenades inside a property. Navy specialists destroyed the explosives at the site because of the risk they posed, and officials reported no incident.
In a separate inspection supported by a canine team at a UNAPROP facility in Mazatlán, authorities found 12 packages of suspected marijuana, vape devices and controlled medication without a prescription in a light cargo vehicle. Ground patrols also seized two vehicles containing loaded magazines, 238 cartridges and a tactical vest. The source attributed the arrests and seizures to the Navy and cooperating authorities.
