What happened
Infobae México reports that García Harfuch identified Edgar Aarón Vázquez Alvarado as the alleged mastermind of Milton Morales’ killing after federal officers killed him in Naucalpan.
Reporting and context
Mexican security chief Omar García Harfuch identified Edgar Aarón Vázquez Alvarado, known as “El General,” as the alleged mastermind of police coordinator Milton Morales Figueroa’s killing after federal officers killed Vázquez in Naucalpan on November 5, 2026, according to Infobae México.
García Harfuch said officers executing an organized-crime arrest warrant came under fire from a vehicle in Lomas Verdes. A second man also died; news sources identified him as Edwin Antonio González Córdoba, “El Ronco,” an alleged former operational director of the State of Mexico prosecutor’s office.
Infobae México reported that authorities identified Vázquez as the founder of Cártel Nuevo Imperio, a Sinaloa Cartel splinter with a presence in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Morelos and Guerrero. The report traces its emergence to the fallout from the 2008 Beltrán Leyva split and its first public banners in 2014. Authorities link its activities to drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, fuel theft, cargo theft and money laundering.
Morales was killed on July 21, 2024, while off duty at a poultry shop in Coacalco de Berriozábal. An accompanying officer and a relative were wounded. Investigators initially identified Raúl “N,” “Racafa,” as an alleged organizer; the report says the investigation now points to Vázquez as the senior figure who ordered the attack.
The group has also faced arrests. Néstor Arturo López Arellano, “El 20,” was detained in Polanco on July 24, 2024. A source photograph reproduces the State of Mexico prosecutor’s earlier reward notice, issued in 2021 for up to 300,000 pesos. Gustavo Aldair Arzate Vázquez, “El Malportado,” was arrested in Acapulco on August 2, 2025, with four alleged associates.
The report also describes U.S. Treasury sanctions imposed on Vázquez on November 19, 2025, alleging that he protected Ryan James Wedding in Mexico and used police contacts to locate targets. Three companies were also blocked. García Harfuch said investigators would continue seeking others responsible for Morales’ killing.
