Two detained in Sinaloa mine-worker disappearance
El País México reports that authorities detained two alleged suspects linked to the disappearance of 10 Vizsla Silver workers in Concordia, Sinaloa, where authorities later found clandestine graves and identified nine victims.
El País México reports that Mexican authorities detained two alleged suspects in connection with the January disappearance of 10 workers from Vizsla Silver Corp., a Canadian mining company, in Concordia, Sinaloa. The suspects were identified as Ángel Gabriel “N,” alias El Tronco, and Milton Yair “N.” El País México says the Security Cabinet identified both as members of Los Menores, a criminal group authorities linked to Óscar Luciano Martínez Larios, alias Casco, who was described as a regional figure associated with Los Chapitos.
The workers disappeared on January 23, according to the report. Authorities later found a clandestine grave area near El Verde, about 15 kilometers from Concordia, and eventually located at least 14 bodies, nine of which were identified as Vizsla Silver workers. The source lists the 10 missing workers by name and says the case prompted a joint operation involving Army Special Forces and the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat, using military intelligence, ground reconnaissance and surveillance patrols.
The detentions were announced after that operation, which targeted alleged members of Los Chapitos in Concordia, the report says. El País México also notes that authorities had previously announced the detention of another alleged participant, Gabriel Nicolás Martínez Larios, known as El Gabito or El 80. The alleged affiliations, responsibility for the disappearances and characterization of the suspects remain claims attributed to Mexican authorities; the report does not establish guilt, and judicial proceedings remain pending.
