Message left for Paul Moreno, 'El Men'
English transcript
A body accompanied by a poster-board sign was abandoned on a plot of land in southern Culiacán. "The plaza has an owner." That is the message accompanying another violent discovery in southern Culiacán.
On Tuesday afternoon, October 13, motorists traveling along Boulevard Lomas de San Isidro in Culiacán alerted authorities to a body abandoned on a vacant lot. When security personnel arrived, they confirmed that the victim was wrapped in a blanket and that a cooler containing the person's head was beside the body, with a hat nearby.
At the time of the initial reports, the victim had not been officially identified. However, the purported message left at the scene began circulating on social media. Among other insults, it tells El Men that the missing person they were looking for is there, and that he should stop sending young guys to stir up violence in the territory.
Paul Moreno, known as El Men, is described in this report as one of the principal figures generating violence in the state capital. He has previously been named and threatened in banners placed around Culiacán.
Social media users also claim that he was responsible for the kidnapping of jewelry businessman Luis Mario Zúñiga. Armed men intercepted Zúñiga on September 17 as he arrived at his business in Plaza Real, in the Tres Ríos area. He was released in the early hours of September 19, after about 40 hours.
