Reporting and context
Federal authorities arrested Iván Sánchez “N,” known as “El Cromo,” in Jalisco and identify him as an alleged leader of the criminal organization Los Cromos, Hoy Tamaulipas reported. The operation involved the Mexican Navy, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Attorney General’s Office.
According to Hoy Tamaulipas, authorities allege that Los Cromos is linked to extortion, homicide, kidnapping and retail drug sales in Oaxaca’s Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Investigators associate the group with activity in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Salina Cruz, Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Ciudad Ixtepec and Matías Romero, a region important to trade and freight transportation.
The report said investigators began tracing Sánchez in 2025 as part of Operation Sable, and that officers arrested him without firing a shot after following leads from Oaxaca and Chiapas to Jalisco. Authorities said the broader strategy has produced more than 250 arrests, including alleged criminal leaders and financial operators, but did not specify how many members of Los Cromos remain active or what charges Sánchez will face. A former Juchitán mayor is also under investigation for possible links to the organization. No weapons, drugs or money seizures, or additional arrests, were reported in the operation. Sánchez remains under investigation while authorities determine his legal status and possible criminal responsibility.
