Reporting and context

Two men received lengthy prison sentences for a March 2025 shooting that killed three people in Mexico City's Morelos neighborhood, according to Infobae México, citing the capital's prosecutor's office. The report identified the defendants as Diego "N" and Abdiel "N" and described them as alleged members of La Familia Michoacana.

The court sentenced Diego to 47 years and six months for two murders and Abdiel to 71 years and three months for three murders. Infobae México reported that Abdiel's time actually served is capped at 70 years under the applicable Mexico City law. The ruling was issued on October 6, 2026.

The prosecution's account said the men shot two people in the Morelos neighborhood of Cuauhtémoc borough on March 16, 2025. Abdiel then shot and killed a third person while fleeing. Diego's conviction covered only the first two killings. City police pursued and detained the defendants after the attack, and criminal proceedings against them advanced on March 21, 2025.

Prosecutors presented witness interviews, video recordings and forensic evidence at trial. According to the report, ballistics testing linked cartridge cases recovered at the scene to weapons seized from the defendants, while forensic examinations found recent gunpowder residue in those weapons.

The financial orders were also tied to the separate convictions. Abdiel was ordered to pay 1,394,000 pesos in material compensation and 6,788.40 pesos in funeral expenses for each of the three victims. Diego received the same obligations for each of the two victims covered by his conviction. Compensation for moral damages was left for determination during enforcement of the sentences, with the victims' relatives retaining the right to seek it.
