What happened

Azteca Noticias reported that authorities arrested Iván “N,” an alleged Los Cromos leader, in Guadalajara. Officials cited aggravated-homicide warrants and an investigation into the group’s suspected role in a four-year-old girl’s killing in Juchitán.

Reporting and context

Federal authorities arrested Iván “N,” known as El Cromo, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in an operation targeting violence in Oaxaca’s Isthmus of Tehuantepec, according to Azteca Noticias. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch identified him as one of the leaders of Los Cromos, a group authorities link to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Azteca Noticias reported that the detainee had two documented arrest warrants for aggravated homicide involving three victims. García Harfuch’s statement also cited a third warrant for the same offense, dating to 2020, recorded in intelligence files. Authorities had offered up to 2 million pesos for information leading to his capture.

García Harfuch said Los Cromos was under investigation for suspected involvement in the killing of a four-year-old girl in Juchitán. He also linked the organization to homicides, extortion, protection rackets, kidnapping and drug and weapons trafficking.

The arrest continues investigations that led to the September 23 detention of Miguel “N,” then mayor of Juchitán de Zaragoza, and another alleged member of the organization. The official statement connected those arrests to suspected aggravated extortion, offenses against state security and alleged schemes to protect criminal organizations.

The Navy’s Naval Intelligence Unit and the National Intelligence Center developed the intelligence behind the Guadalajara operation. The Navy led the operation with the federal security and defense ministries, the federal Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard and the intelligence center, the statement said. The Financial Intelligence Unit, Oaxaca prosecutors and authorities from Oaxaca and Jalisco also took part.
