Two arrested in Jalisco extortion case

Federal authorities arrested Mario “N” and Juvenal “N” in Guadalajara, identifying them as alleged members of a criminal cell linked to extortion targeting meat-sector businesses, AF Medios reported. The operation was carried out under Mexico’s National Strategy against Extortion, with personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Defense Ministry, the National Guard and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), through its Criminal Investigation Agency. The National Intelligence Center also provided information, according to the report.
Authorities said the two men had outstanding arrest warrants for aggravated extortion, homicide and criminal association. Investigators said intelligence and surveillance work connected them to extortion messages sent through digital platforms, affecting at least 77 meat-sector branches. AF Medios attributed that figure to authorities involved in the investigation.
After investigators located the pair in Guadalajara, security personnel carried out the arrests. Mario “N” and Juvenal “N” were informed of their legal rights and placed at the disposal of the relevant public prosecutor, who will determine their legal status. The Security Cabinet said its agencies will continue intelligence and investigative work against extortion and to protect productive sectors.
