Reporting and context
Fifteen people were killed in Sinaloa on Tuesday, October 27, according to Noroeste’s reporting tally. Nine killings occurred in Mazatlán, including those of two women, and six in Culiacán. Noroeste described it as one of the state’s most violent days since fighting between Sinaloa Cartel factions began in September 2024.
The killings coincided with Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo’s visit to Mazatlán to supervise deployed forces and assess security operations. According to Noroeste, the violence continued despite the presence of thousands of federal personnel in Sinaloa.
In Mazatlán, the day began with the discovery of a severed head at City Hall. A young man was later shot dead outside his home in Independencia, and two men were killed inside an auto repair shop in Real del Valle.
Noroeste reported that women were killed in separate attacks in La Foresta and Flores Magón. Other attacks killed men in Juárez, Ramón F. Iturbe and a field in Barrón, south of the city. A woman was wounded in the Juárez attack, and another man was wounded in Ramón F. Iturbe.
In Culiacán, the cases included a body found wrapped in plastic and a blanket in Tierra Blanca and a decapitated body discovered beside the Culiacán River in Aguaruto. A man was killed inside a home in Chulavista, another was shot outside an elementary school in Infonavit Barrancos, and a cyclist was killed outside the Sinaloa livestock fairgrounds. A young man was also shot dead in a Barrancos park.
The report also documented gunfire against two homes in Culiacán and the abduction of six young people in Villa del Real, as well as a man and a woman in Colinas del Rey. Those abductions were reported separately from the homicide tally.
Security Cabinet supervision visits in Sinaloa were announced to begin on October 27. The report places the latest violence within the escalation of killings, disappearances and armed attacks since the cartel factional conflict began in September 2024.
