Two arrested over attack on Elvis Guerra’s home in Oaxaca

El Imparcial ·

Oaxaca prosecutors announced the arrests of two suspected Los Cromos members investigated over extortion and the September 18 attack on designer Elvis Guerra’s home. Authorities cited in the report said a message demanded 60,000 pesos.

Two suspected members of Los Cromos were arrested in connection with an armed attack on textile designer Elvis Guerra’s home in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, El Imparcial reported. Investigators are examining their alleged involvement in extortion and the September 18, 2026, shooting.

According to the Oaxaca state prosecutor’s office, the suspects are E.B.P., known as “El Bolán,” and a woman identified as G.C.L. Prosecutors announced the arrests on October 16. E.B.P. was detained in Chiapas in an operation involving prosecutors from both states; investigators allege that he fired at the home’s façade. State investigators arrested G.C.L. in Juchitán’s Segunda Sección neighborhood.

The prosecutor’s office said arrangements were being made to transfer E.B.P. to Oaxaca to appear before the relevant judicial authority. Both suspects face extortion allegations, while investigators continue to establish each person’s role in the attack.

People traveling on a motorcycle fired at Guerra’s home on September 18, according to the authorities cited in the report. El Imparcial, citing information from the prosecutor’s office also reported by La Jornada, said the attackers left a message signed Los Cromos demanding 60,000 pesos in exchange for leaving Guerra and his family unharmed.

Prosecutors describe Los Cromos as an extortion network operating mainly in Juchitán, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. They linked the attack to alleged demands for protection payments under threats of violence.

Guerra works with the region’s traditional textiles and embroidery. He helped make the dress President Claudia Sheinbaum wore at the September 15 Independence Day ceremony, three days before the shooting. That connection brought national attention to the attack and the alleged threats against him.
