Bermejillo, Durango woke up to one of those killings that hits harder because of what was about to happen next.
Ramón Fernando González Macías, 23, was identified as the young man found shot to death on a dirt road near the Gómez Palacio–Jiménez highway. According to the initial reports, he had two gunshot wounds to the head.

What makes it land even heavier is the timing. Ramón was just three days away from getting married on Saturday, April 11. His social media was full of the kind of posts people make when they think life is finally opening up in front of them. Instead, it ended on a roadside in Durango.
That is the part people in Bermejillo are struggling with today. This was not just another homicide bulletin. It was a young man with a wedding date, a fiancée, a family waiting, and a future that was already in motion.
Now the Vicefiscalía de La Laguna is handling the investigation, while friends, neighbors, and relatives are left with the same question that hangs over so many killings in northern Mexico: who did it, and why.
For his family, none of that will change what was taken.
My condolences to his fiancée, his family, and the people who knew him.

The people of the town probably know why it happened.
