Durango, Mexico—Violence struck on Saturday, November 30, 2024, when two gunmen stormed the All Wash car wash on San Ignacio Boulevard, injuring three people in what locals quietly attribute to the Cabrera Sarabia cartel, better known as Los Cabreras.
The attack unfolded around 6:30 PM. Witnesses described the assailants arriving armed with AK-47 rifles—“Cuernos de Chivo”—and unleashing over 50 rounds. The car wash, a regular stop for locals washing their vehicles or buying “litros,” became the latest casualty of the cartel’s iron grip on Durango.
Felipe, 44, a customer washing his black GMC truck, was shot in the left foot. Kevin, 18, and Héctor, 19, both car washers, were also injured—one in the ankle, the other in the forearm. None of the injuries are life-threatening, but the scars will remain.
street and opening fire at the car wash.
Around town, no one says it out loud, but everyone knows who was behind the violence. Los Cabreras, a powerful faction aligned with Mayito Flaco, have long dominated Durango’s criminal landscape. Their control of trafficking routes and ruthless enforcement methods have made them notorious. The All Wash shooting, many whisper, bears all the hallmarks of their work—a message delivered through bullets.
Durango’s residents are accustomed to the unspoken rules of life under cartel rule. This wasn’t a random act. The timing, the location, the sheer firepower—all pointed to a calculated attack meant to settle a score or issue a warning. Whether the victims were caught in the crossfire or targeted remains a question locals don’t dare ask.
As Felipe recovers in the ISSSTE hospital and Kevin and Héctor heal at General Hospital 450, the streets of Durango have more questions than answers. The people here know better than to talk, and justice, as always, feels like a distant dream in a place where violence is as much a part of life as the dusty roads and setting sun.
