In a coordinated operation between the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Michoacán (FGE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States (FBI), the arrest of Santiago “N” and Lorie Lin “N” was achieved. They are accused of kidnapping three migrants in Brookshire, Texas, on March 18, 2023.
The authorities captured the suspects at the Tenencia de Cutzio, in the municipality of Huetamo, Michoacán, on February 27, 2024, as reported by the Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office.
The capture of the alleged kidnappers was possible after receiving an arrest warrant issued by US authorities, which led the Directorate of Reaction and Strategic Operations (DROE) of the Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to head the mission that led to the tracking and locating of Santiago “N” and Lorie Lin “N” in Michoacan territory, where they were evading justice.
After their arrest, the individuals involved were placed at the disposal of the competent authority to determine their legal status and proceed accordingly.
In the face of the announcement of the arrest of these individuals by Mexican authorities, the FBI of Houston reported on their social media that the detention was carried out by agents of the corporation in Michoacán.
“The Houston agents worked with the FBI of Mexico City, the FBI office in Guadalajara and the Attorney General’s Office of Michoacán,” reported the American corporation.
Until now, it is unknown whether these two individuals belong to any criminal group or operate independently.
At the end of January this year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released a list of targets to capture, in which four individuals stand out as suspected perpetrators of trafficking cocaine from Mexico to Canada, including Mexican Eduardo Carvajal.
In addition to the Mexican citizen, John Joe Soto, Esteban Sinhue Mercado, and Corell Carbajal García, from California are also being sought. According to investigations by the Central District Attorney’s Office of California, the accused are believed to be connected to an international criminal network that collaborates with the Montreal Mafia, an organization led by the Rizzuto family.
The connection between these individuals, according to investigation, suggests a complex drug distribution scheme that spans from Guadalajara, Jalisco, through Los Angeles, California, and reaches Canadian territory and other parts of the United States.
Eduardo Carvajal, originally from Jalisco, is described as an important logistics operator in charge of organizing the shipment of large quantities of cocaine. Meanwhile, John Joe Soto appears as the direct link to Jesus Ruiz Sandoval Jr., identified as one of the main leaders of the network, who is currently a fugitive. Other key members, including Robert Scoppa, a known wholesale drug buyer linked to the Italian mafia, are also facing legal proceedings and extradition orders to the United States.
The operations of this network would include the use of Canadian merchants and transporters who made short but frequent visits to Los Angeles to collect shipments of cocaine and methamphetamine, which were then transported to Canada in heavy vehicles properly equipped for long distances. This methodology emphasizes the level of sophistication and coordination among the different links in the criminal chain.
The inclusion of the four men on the FBI target list not only highlights the international scope of their alleged illegal activities, but also transnational cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
