Last Sunday, February 22, Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho,’ leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was killed in an operation in the municipality of Tapalpa, Jalisco.

After his death, images of the cabin where he lived circulated on social media. Inside, the instructions left by the drug lord for after his death were found, which serve as an operational will.

What did ‘El Mencho’s’ instructions say?

According to photographs and videos taken inside the cabin, a message was found with the following warning:

Don’t travel by road, don’t go to the bank, don’t buy anything at the corner store. Don’t get on buses, planes, trains, or the subway. And don’t associate with gringos—because they’re potential targets of revenge—in restaurants, bars, hotels, museums, galleries, theaters, parks, or tourist areas. Don’t even think about going to school. Puerto Vallarta is off-limits: they burn buildings there.

How did “El Mencho” die?

Security authorities reported that on the morning of Sunday, February 22, in Tapalpa, Jalisco, agents carried out an operation in which four members of the “CJNG” criminal group died at the scene, and three wounded individuals died during their transfer by air to Mexico City, including the cartel’s leader, alias “El Mencho.”

In addition, two other members of this criminal organization were arrested and various weapons and armored vehicles were seized, including rocket launchers capable of shooting down aircraft and destroying armored vehicles.
